Zwolle vs Feyenoord by 20Legend
Zwolle will eager to take their first win after just getting 1-0-3 to show for from the last four games. After they won against Heerenveen (5-2) in middle of January, things have continued poorly as it did that win as well. An impressive point against Vitesse (1-1) away from home on January 27th could be the boost that they were looking for, but they have failed to build on that momentum. After losing against 9th placed Groningen (1-3), Zwolle had nothing to offer against 3rd placed Heracles (2-0) last weekend. The match evolved as expected with Heracles dominating on creating chances. Zwolle was able to take on the pressure in the first half (0-0), but could not keep a clean sheet during the second half. They were able to dominate the ball possession in the last half though, but only managed to get one clear shot at goal during the whole match. With their poor form Zwolle are losing terrain in terms of getting a play-off spot, but they are still in it for the time being. They are currently in 10th place with 29 points which means six points up to the valuable 7th place. Given that both teams ahead of them, Groningen and Nijmegen, are facing the top two teams Ajax and PSV, a win could be even more valuable for Zwolle today.
Feyenoord was absolutely on to something when the season started as they were fighting among the top teams all the way until Christmas. The New Year has been a total crisis for them as they have lost five straight games in the league. It looks like their confidence level has disappeared as well as their chances of winning the league. They are now in 6th place with 39 points, with another 13 points up to Ajax (2nd place) and 14 points up to PSV (1st place). Their aim must now be to turn things around quickly as the teams from behind could steal their current play-off spot if the form continues. A win today could change the scenario for them as they could take the 3rd place from Heracles.
It was a lot of positive things to take from their performance against Ajax (2-1) last weekend, but the most important things, the points, continued missing. After taking the lead, Ajax equalized almost right after, but the score was 1-1 at half time. The second half was quite equal in terms of getting chances on goal, but Ajax was the team that managed to take care of the chances. The home scored 2-1 after 65 minutes and could have made it 3-1 from the penalty-spot, but failed. Feyenoord produced five shots on goal against the 2nd place in the league which was a good improvement. The squad is complete with only Warner Hahn continuing on missing time with his long-term injury.
This is obviously a match between two teams that are out-of-form, but it is still a match that both teams should be able to win. Feyenoord has shown some better quality during their latest two matches, while Zwolle wants to move up towards the top seven once again. The match should involve chances both ways and over 2.5 goals seem to be a reasonable pick.
