Zwolle vs AZ Alkmaar by Meese
Zwolle is having poor start in the season so far in Eredivisie, as the team has earned only two points out of first five rounds played. Maybe even more worrying is the fact that their offensive performances are very weak so far, with only two goals scored in these five matches.
In the most recent game, the team at least managed to walk away with a point in a home draw against Utrecht with a 1:1 result. It was good to see them winning a point at least, after three consecutive defeats, but it needs to be said that their offensive lineup was almost non-existent. They took the lead in 12th minute with a goal from Ehizibue and it was almost all they did in attack, leaving the ball to their visitors who finally got the deserved equalizer in first minute of additional time via penalty kick taken by Haller.
Zwolle should be playing in 4-2-3-1 formation with Menig as central striker. Wielen, Mastour and Ehizibue should be their offensive midfielders. Midfielder Django Warmerdan is their newest injury worry, since he joins offensive midfielder Wouter Marinus (1/0), defensive midfielder Rick Dekker (0/0) and central midfielder Mustafa Saymak (1/0) on the sidelines.
AZ Alkmaar did perfectly fine job in previous Eredivisie game, as the team took professional 2:0 three pointer at home against Willem II last weekend. Jahanbakhsh opened the scoreline in nineteen minute, while Garcia sealed the victory in last moments of the game, with the home team leaving ball possession to their opponents for the most of the time in between, but without really jeopardizing their goal.
It was their third consecutive victory, while the players of AZ has no real setback yet in the league with 3-1-1 record so far (only defeat came against PSV), as they continue to be at third position together with Ajax, being five points below leaders from Feyenoord, so a victory is needed here. They made a setback at the start of Europa League, getting only a draw in a home game against modest Dundalk last Thursday evening.
Players from AZ Alkmaar should be lined up in 4-2-3-1 formation with Weghorst as central striker, Jahanbakhsh, Overeem and Santos as offensive midfielders. Central defender Jop van der Linden continues to be injured from the start of the season, while the visitors also might miss central midfielder Stijn Wuytens (5/0) who is doubtful.
- PEC Zwolle have failed to win their last 9 matches (Eredivisie).
- AZ Alkmaar have won their last 3 matches (Eredivisie).
AZ Alkmaar seems to be in a good form at the moment and I wouldn't be that concern about their Europa League performance and fatigue, since it's obvious from previous seasons too, that the players care much more about Eredivisie. I expect them to enter the game strongly and be a more dominant side from the first minute, collecting the victory in the end.
