Zulte Waregem vs Eupen by Isaiah
Zulte Waregem managed to finish into first six in the regular season, playing some attractive football in most games. In the playoffs they were certainly not able to make a good presence, and finished to the last position of their group. At the moment they look ready and looked quite good in their last friendly game against NEC, where they won 5:1.
Their squad is significantly strengthened in comparison with the last season. They signed striker Obbi Oulare from Watford, striker Igor Vetokele from Charlton, both with loan deals, striker Jens Naessens from Mechelen, defender Timothy Derijck (27 games and 3 goals with Den Haag), left back Brian Hamalainen from Genk, and midfielder Lukas Lerager (31 games with Viborg). The major players losses were striker Steve De Ridder (37 games, 5 goals), left winger Mame Thiam (28 games, 9 goals) and defender Abdou Dialo (33 games, 3 goals).
Eupen was promoted thanks to Champions of second division White Star, who failed to get permission to participate in the big league. Eupen finished in the second position, just a point behind White Star, having a great attacking line with 69 goals in 32 games.
Their roster is strange and multicultural, as there is just six Belgians and 13 players are Africans. There is also a German, a Frenchman and a Venezuelan. They also have two Spaniards, the 35 year-old Luis Garcia, who has left his mark in many teams of the country and the striker Jose Maria Cases. Spanish is also their coach, Jordi Condom Auli, who is there since March of 2015. Generally, a squad of 26 players, with 20 of them foreigners, and a low average age of just 24. It is a question mark at the moment if they can stand well to the big league.
- Zulte Waregem have kept a clean sheet in their last 3 home matches against Eupen.
- Zulte Waregem are undefeated in their last 6 matches against Eupen.
Zulte is strengthened especially in attack, surely a better than Eupen, at least typically, and I expected lower odds for their victory. With the current circumstances, I think that there is value in Zulte victory tonight.
