Young Boys vs Basel by Gustav

Young Boys didn't disappoint in previous season, but the team still failed to be more active in the title race, ending the season at second position with twenty-seven points less than champions from Basel, while they had sixteen points more than third placed Lugano. Their position was naturally determined way more before the official ending of the season and they had some extra time to test more players.

As for the Cup competition, the team lost in quarter-finals to Winterthur suffering defeat after penalty kicks at home, while the team got excluded at the group stage of Europa League last Winter. Young Boys lost to amateur side Breitenrain and Russian side Akhmat Grozny, while they drew to Stoke, winning against Wacker Innsbruck and Benfica in the most recent friendly game.

Midfielder Seferi (7/0) won't be playing in comparison to the previous season, while doubtful is also forward Nsame who recently signed for the home team.

Basel, on the other side, was once again far most dominant side in the league, ending the season at first position and securing the title couple of months before the official ending of the season, as they ended it with twenty-seven points more than second placed Young Boys. They also managed to get the Swiss Cup as well, winning over Sion 3:0 in the Cup's finale late in May.

They also had plenty of time to test fringe players later in the season, while their preparation period went very well earlier this month. The team played five friendly matches, winning over Rosenheim, Xamax and drawing to Wil, while they have won over Athletic Bilbao and Sporting in two most recent and way more serious test matches in last ten days.

Visitors will be missing midfielder Manzabi (2/0) from previous season), but also newcomer forward Oberlin who signed in previous weeks.

It's difficult to draw the line so early into the season, but I have no doubts that Basel will once again finish the league with double digits points difference in comparison to Young Boys. Having that in mind, I see all the value with the visiting team this time.

I agree with you but are you saying today’s match won’t produce goals from both sides based on their previous and past matches?

  2. BigFish says:

Basel are without a dependable player and Young boys have been slightly better than Basel lately. Basel has always had it tough away to Young Boys. I see 2-1 in the game.
