Uruguay vs Portugal
Uruguay did what was needed to get the first position in the group A of the World Cup. Their matches weren't looking always very impressive, but the side showed great stability and remain the only team yet to concede at the World Cup.
They have opened the competition with a narrow 1:0 victory over Egypt, waiting and being better during the game but needed last moments to score. Game against Saudi Arabia wasn't much different as they won with the same result obviously staying very satisfied with the lead on the field.
Bit more of the potential was shown in third round when they outplayed Russia with a 3:0 result. They had a strong start and took the double lead via Suarez and an own goal early in the game. Russians stood with a man less towards the end of the first halftime, while Cavani sealed final score in 90th minute. No matter what, the team obviously knows how to explot their opponent's weaknesses.
Uruguay should be playing in 4-3-1-2 formation. Suarez and Cavani are set to lead their attack. Bentacur will provide offensive help behind them and he is one booking away from suspension. Jose Gimenez is set to recover from injury in time to start.
After a 3:3 opening game against Spain, it looked like Portuguese lowered down the tempo of their matches in order to save some energy. They were huge favorites against Morocco and Iran, but the game turned out to be far more difficult for them.
The side took just a 1:0 victory over Morocco by scoring goal in fourth minute and well...bit defending for the rest of the clash. They needed a draw only in third's round game against Iran and the players actually behaved like that for some part of the match.
Quaresma brought them into the lead in 45th minute being better and deserving it, while Ronaldo missed penalty kick at the start of second. From that moment on, it might have looked like the Portuguese were calculating a bit and paid the price in the end from the penalty kick scored by Ansarifard. Even though they didn't leave the best possible impression in that match and were threatened maybe even to lose, no doubt that their progress is still deserved.
Portugal is set to continue in a version of 4-4-2 formation with Silva and Ronaldo upfront. Joao Moutinho could be back in the team for this one. Bernardo Silva and Goncalo Guedes will most likely need to settle for a spot on the bench. Few players are booking away from suspension, including Adrien Silva, Bruno Fernandes, Cristiano Ronaldo and Ricardo Quaresma.
- Uruguay have won their last 4 matches (FIFA World Cup).
Both of the teams know how to defend and maybe they do it in just fine way. However, I still see value with over goals as we've seen many times that even individual spur of the moment can open up the game completely. All we need is one goal and there's plenty of quality in both teams to do so, in order for our value bet to have so much more chances.
