Nigeria vs Iceland

Nigerians didn't have that poor game against the Croats last Saturday evening. However the side fell short in the end suffering 2:0 defeat and will need to come up more offensive here if they are to keep the chances of progressing to the next round.

They didn't look that negative on the field against Croatia and even tried to threaten especially since they conceded the first, own goal in 32nd minute. Still, their chances weren't concrete enough while the side paid the price mostly due poor tactical organization of the defensive lineup. Luka Modric sealed the final result via penalty kick in 71st minute and Croats kept the lead without much problem at the back.

However, the truth is that progressing to the next round seems like already mission impossible for them since they are clashing up with Argentina in the last round.

Ighalo should lead the Nigerian attack. Formation should be similar to 4-2-3-1 style. Moses, Mikel and Iwobi should be their offensive midfielders. Coach Rohr could name squad pretty similar or the same as in their defeat against Croatia.

Iceland surprised against Argentina in their World Cup opener as the side took a point in a 1:1 draw. Argentinians has much more of the ball possession, but their domination was quite meaningless with less real chances created.

Aguero brought them into the lead in 19th minute, while Iceland reacted just four minutes later thanks to a goal from Finnbogason. Overall, Europeans threatened very little during the game - being satisfied with the point and standing rock solid at the back.

It could easily turn out that they can benefit with similar approach here, as Nigerians should be even more vulnerable when defending counter attacks.

Iceland should continue in a version similar to 4-4-1-1. Finnbogason should be central striker and with Sigurdsson acting as offensive midfielder. Midfielder Johann Berg Gudmundsson is out with a calf problem. Ryruj Gislason is expected to deputise.

  • There have been under 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Iceland's last 6 games (FIFA World Cup).

It seems that Iceland has a perfect style in order to get a victory against Nigerians. They are well organized, very strong physically and standing on the field in a great tactical way. Additionally, their extra power sure are set pieces and counter attacks. Somehow, most of the things were the African team lacks more stability and intensity. This one stands out as a huge value bet this time.

No, Nigeria will not use 4-2-3-1 this time. Gernot Rohr will likely use 3-5-2, what most country’s football followers touted as the more preferred formation, even the legendary JJ Okocha (Iwobi’s uncle). There are also questions of role switch affecting the below par performance against Croatia.

We can expect alot better performancr this time but likely not enough to guarantee a win against a team that is good in the air, something the Africans (especially Nigerians) are jittery of

Nigeria will loose this game, they played against Croatia like if nothing at stake, forgetting its World Cup. Iceland is very strong fighting till the end which Nigeria Players of this days dont do. We saw fighting Nigeria teams last in the names of Amokachi, Emenike, Pa Jay(Jay Jay) Okocha to mention but few. Victory for Iceland. Good Tipp

Victory for Iceland, No way. This match is Nigeria win or draw but I have strong believe that Nigeria will win with the combination of under 3.5 goals market is a good idea.
