Croatia vs Denmark

Croatia is surely one of the nations that has shown the best football so far. They won over Nigeria in the first round with quite clever tactics and simply by exploiting opponents errors to get that 2:0 victory. Argentina was completely outplayed and demolished in the second halftime of second's round game for the 3:0 victory.

While they sealed victory over Iceland even with a rotated squad used in the last round of the group stage with a 2:1 result. Many were complaining and questioning their motive in the third round, however the side proved that they have almost two equally fine squads to compete here.

Even though Iceland have created more and looked like a side more willing to risk, Croats were the ones who looked smarter and simply waited for their chances in quite relaxed atmosphere. Badelj brought them into the lead in 53rd minute, while Sigursdsson leveled up from the penalty kick in 70th minute.

Just when the Icelandic team risked the most, Perisic was able to seal the victory thanks to goal in 90th minute. Thanks to this victory they finished the group stage with all three wins, five points above second placed Argentina. Their first position wasn't questionable after only two rounds of play.

Forward Nikola Kalinic is not part of the team due coach decision. Offensive midfielder Marko Pjaca probably won't play due calf problem.

Denmark, on the other side, didn't look very convincing at the group stage at all. They managed to get a narrow and quite undeserved victory over Peru in the opening round when their opponents missed plenty of chances and even a penalty kick.

They were quite equal to Australia in the second round and got a 1:1 draw, while both them and their opponents from France were fine with a draw in the third round. The game ended as a goalless one without much of chances created overall except some French ones earlier in the game.

As the time progressed neither of the teams actually wanted to take the risk and attack. French were satisfied with a point and first position, while Denmark was more than happy to hold the draw knowing that Peru and other game's result isn't their enemy towards the end.

Therefore, with two goals scored and thanks to other results too, Danish managed to progress further. Many of the players were rotated for this game and the starting lineup is quite fresh and ready for this one.

Croatia have shown so much more than their opponents in this game. Could be said that Denmark was one of the nations that "undeservedly" reached the knock-out phase. On the other side, Croats might not be the biggest force at the World Cup, but are neither that far away from it. They are surely heading as favorites into this one after being one of couple of nations that showed the most for now and are actually quite decent favorite to enter the last stages of the World Cup.

It will not be a easy task for Croatia cuz Denmark have not been easy at the back

  2. segzy says:

Interesting game it will b I would be going for Croatia win under 2.5, or x/Croatia. It’s a sure first half draw IMO

  3. Ives says:

Agree with segzy. Denmark is good on defense and this game can easily go to extra time.

  4. Christopher Kloster says:

Denmark should not be underestimated. Croatia have been play ung really gold, while Denmark and the likes of Pione Sisto and Eriksen have been playing bad. The Danish team have shown a rock-solid defense and only let in 1 goal in the last 8 matches, and that was on a very vague penalty. Denmark didnt go trough ‘thanks to other results’, they secured it themselves with 5 points. Besides the penalties, they gave away one real goal-scoring chance against Peru.

Croatia on the other hand saved quite a lot against Iceland, which of course can be a really good and vital thing in order to reach the semi /final stage of the World Cup, but it can also take out there flow in the game. Who knows how they will react if things don’t go their way?

I would personally dodge or go for draw. Croatia is the favorite, but in my opinion, a very slim one.

Agree that Denmark shouldn’t be underestimatet, but I don’t think it will be under 2,5.
