Portugal vs Spain

Portugal and Spain in the derby match of group B. Probably the best match of the entire first round across all groups.

IMO Spanish team is overrated with offered odds. I don't say they are not good, in fact they are one of five to six biggest favorites on this World Cup. But, first round match is used to be the toughest. Plus you have on the other side one serious opponent who is not much lower ranked then you are. And that's the current European champion, Portugal who is led by best player on the planet, Ronaldo.

So, I can't agree with Spain being around 2.00 favorite. I just can't. IMO that might be the case if this is some elimination game but in group stage opening round, it should be much closer to 50-50 match.

Also we should mention the fact about sudden change on the bench of Spanish national team. Opinions are divided about that but from my point of view, it's not something that's going in favor of Spain. I mean, bringing the new coach practically one day before first game, well that's not serious, we all should agree about that. Plus, if the new guy is some big name in the coaching business, then I could understand to some point. But appointing Fernando Hierro, well that's a joke if you ask me.

Who is a little bit older, remember very well Hierro from his playing days. He was big name of Spanish football, the captain of Real Madrid. But what's his experience as a head coach? One season in Oviedo, in low division. Well, sorry all bettors who likes today Spain but after such move, Spain seems to me as a joke. I refer on the organization level while players are of course great, those the same who were successful all these recent years.

I believe Portugal will remain unbeaten in this game. The most likely result: 1:1.
