Wolfsburg vs Hoffenheim by Gustav
Wolfsburg comes from fourth consecutive draw in Bundesliga and even though their new manager has no victory yet, there's some obvious improvement in their performances, since the team played against quite strong opponents in these four - against Werder Bremen, Bayern Munich, Mainz and most lately, away to Leverkusen taking a point in a 2:2 draw.
Must be said this time they their opponents were much stronger on the field and more dominating taking the lead in 29th minute via Bender, while the guests leveled up in 44th via Origi. Hosts were better at the start of second too, taking the lead again in 61st via Alario, but Blaszczykowski leveled up several minutes later for the final result proving that the defense of Leverkusen is quite weak this season. Wolfsbrug now stand just a point above relegating placed Freiburg and are slowly under pressure to get their second Bundesliga victory of the season.
Home team should be playing in 4-2-3-1 formation with Origi set as central striker, plus Didavi, Malli and Blaszczykowski as offensive midfielders. Right back Sebastian Jung, central defenders John Brooks and Jeffrey Bruma all three remain long term absentees close to the full fitness after injuries, but the match comes too soon. Striker Mario Gomez should return in this one, but probably not playing for all ninety minutes.
Hoffenheim probably did disappoint a little last time out, since the team managed to get only a point in a 2:2 home draw against Augsburg last Saturday evening. They were better in first, but without a single goal scored, while the side was better in second as well, but failed to give that deciding punch to the visiting team.
In overall very open second halftime, Hoffenheim took the lead in 52nd minute via Hubner, while the guests replied back in 75th via Gregoritsch, but the hosts re-gained the lead ten minutes later via Uth, however stood without all three points in a bit unlucky way with an own goal in 90th minute. The side is still at fifth position and surely aiming to get a victory here in order to keep get back into the top four positions that lead to Champions League. Using rotated squad, players of Hoffenheim managed to get a 3:1 victory in Europa League over Basaksehir last Thursday evening and keep the chances of reaching the knockout stage having three points now, three less than second placed Braga.
Guests are set to play in 3-5-2 formation with Wagner and Kramaric as forwards. Central defender Ermin Bicakcic (2/0) and forwards Adam Szalai (1/0) and Robert Zulj (no performance so far) are long term absentees for the visiting side.
- Wolfsburg have won their last 4 home matches against Hoffenheim.
Manager Martin Schmidt started his reign with four draws, but it's obvious that the side plays better - at least for sure in attack. Hoffenheim rotated their squad for the Europa League and should be ready for this game, surely wanting a victory. I can see this match being very open one, as most of the matches these two sides play, so over goals and both teams to score remains most logical first bet option for me.
