Wolfsburg vs Bayern by Gustav
Wolfsburg didn't manage to get all three points, even though that was a plan, last weekend when the team visited Hertha Berlin and stood to a 1:1 draw. Overall, it was an equal performance from the rivals, but the guests were the ones to go into the lead, thanks to a goal from Schafer in 53rd minute - however with hosts replying only seven minutes later with a goal from Kalou.
Players of Wolfburg might have done a bit more on the field, but overall the final result was fair. After this draw, the team remained being outside of the European positions, as they currently stand at eight place - three points away from Europa League placed Schalke and four points below Champions League placed Leverkusen - still being in a great chance to get the direct ticket for Champions League too. Hosts are continuing to have really huge absentee list, since they miss goalkeeper Diego Benaglio (17/0), right full back Sebastian Jung (11/0), midfielders Josuha Guilavogui (21/1) and Daniel Caligiuri (16/4) and striker Bas Dost (16/7), plus couple of more less important players that anyway didn't play till now. Important Koen Casteels should recover from flue in order to be between the posts for this one. Christian Trasch will surely replace injured Sebastian Jung at the position of right back. Hosts should be playing in 4-2-3-1 formation with Kruse as number nine.
Bayern Munich, on the other side, took a professional victory last weekend in front of own fans against Darmstadt 3:1, but probably thinking already about their next game that was played on Tuesday evening when the team visited Juventus in Champions League and were held to a 2:2 draw. Their game against Darmstadt didn't start that well, since the visitors took the lead in 26th minute via Wagner.
We needed to wait till 49th minute for a Bayern's respond via Muller, while the same players scored their second and Lewandowski sealed the victory six minutes before the full time whistle. They are now eight points above second placed Dortmund and will hardly lose the battle till the end. As for Champions League, the team was better than Juventus and maybe deserved something more, but won't be too downhearted with the result since they have every chance of qualifying further in front of own fans. Mehdi Benatia might get full playing minutes here, since Joshua Kimmich might be rested this time. Xabi Alonso didn't start in the Champions League game, but will be included here in the starting eleven. Franck Ribery and Mario Gotze will probably play the full game, having returned to full fitness again. Defensive Rafinha (16/0) is suspended for this game, while injured remain central defender Holger Badstuber (7/0), defenders Javi Martinez (12/1) and Jerome Boateng (21/0). They will be playing in 4-1-4-1 formation with Lewandowski as striker, Robben and Ribery on winger positions.
Wolfsburg is on a decent positive run and having already almost progressed in the Champions League, they will surely want to get a victory over Bayern and boost their their morale even further - also might enter the game a bit more relaxed. Bayern, on the other side, remains favorite to get all three points, but their defensive lineup isn't too reliable. Therefore, my first pick will be over goals as both sides are able to net three times alone.
