Wigan vs Northampton by Luke
Wigan disappointed last season a lot and the team relegated from Championship easily, but now are trying to bounce back right away and promote, if possible within first two positions in order to avoid additional play-off. It's still early to talk, but the side is on the right path for now, having 5-1-1 record for now and two consecutive victories.
Such records puts them on fifth position at the moment, but with a game less played than all the other rivals, while they stood just a point away from the second placed Peterborough. In case ofa victory here, they will be second, with just three points less than first placed Shrewsbury. In the previous game played, they easily overpowered Bristol Rovers in front of own fans with a 3:0 result, but were lucky a bit to have played with a man more since 30th minute when a visiting player was shown red card. Goalscorers were Powell in 30th, Grigg in 49th and Massey in fifth minute of additional time for their second consecutive victory, while the side remains undefeated in last eight official matches at home.
Midfielder Nick Powell (7/4) is doubtful for this one, while first goalkeeper Christian Walton (4/0), defender Craig Morgan and midfielder Shaun MacDonald are also not playing due injuries, with the last two not playing in the season anyway.
Northampton, on the other side, barely escaped to the safe zone in the relegation battle last season and the team is surely determined to avoid such destiny and improve further in order to avoid such situation again. For now, they have two victories, a draw and four defeats, which makes the side being in the second part of the table with seven points - just a point more than relegating placed Rochdale.
However, it muse be said that the team did improve in previous couple of weeks, being on a run of two victories and a draw, taking a point in the most recent game played last Saturday evening when they had a 2:2 draw away from home against Southend. They made a great first halftime and had the double lead thanks to Barnett and Crooks, but the hosts replied instantly in the second halftime via Demetriou and Wordsworth, continuing to attack but didn't manage to completely revert the scoreline.
Guests have midfielder Matt Crooks (7/3) suspended for this one, while doubtful are forward Sam Hoskins (no performance so far) and defender George Smith (2/0). Injured are defender John-Joe O'Toole (no performance so far), Shaun McWilliams (4/0) and midfielder Aaron Phillips (2/0).
Wigan is looking rock solid this season in League One, even when they don't get all three points. Northampton did improve recently, but this match will be too much for them. I simply can't see visitors walking away with anything nor staying very competitive during all ninety minutes.
