Waregem vs Gent by Meese
Waregem comes from two matches against Club Brugge in last seven days, both times suffering defeat in the end even though they had a real chance to walk away with something in both cases. They were leading twice last weekend away in Brugge, but in the end suffering 3:2 loss since they have conceded two goals inside last ten minutes.
As for the Cup game, they were losing last Thursday since fourth minute, but managed to revert the scoreline via de Fauw and Leya in the middle of the second halftime, but conceded a late goal again just to concede another goal in the extra time, so the side was stopped in last sixteen round of Belgian Cup. As for the league, they now stand at eleventh position having four less than play-off placed sides and being in a must win situation here.
Defender Timothy Derijck (10/0) is injured, same as midfielder Fredrik Jensen (5/0) and forward Peter Olayinka (13/5). Participation of defensive Gertjan De Mets is doubtful.
Gent, on the other side, seems to have fully found their good form, as the side comes from third consecutive victory in Jupiler League, winning over Mouscron in front of own fans with a 3:1 result last Friday evening. They took the lead in 29th minute from the penalty kick taken by Simon, while the guests replied just couple of minutes later via Awyoniyi.
Kubo reinstalled the lead for the home side in 39th minute, while they continued being slightly better and having much more of the initiative and ball possession, sealing the victory with a goal from Bronn in 74th minute. They are now at seventh position and just a point less than play-off placed Standard. As for the Cup competition, they easily overcame Lokeren in a 2:1 victory last Wednesday evening improving their morale even further.
Midfielder Giorgi Chakvetadze (1/0) is injured, while doubtful remains midfielder Renato Neto with a knee problem.
- Waregem lost last four competitive matches.
Gent has finally improved and I can see them being only better and better in next weeks. The team finally plays efficient football and with Zulte being in a poor form, value is definitely with the away team here.
