VPS vs HIFK by Isaiah
VPS Vaasa lost 3-2 to SJK last Monday and with this result they are not to the deep bottom of Finnish Veikkausliiga standings. According to the match reports both teams played very open while SJK was just more effective than VPS. Now they have to face HIFK at home, another team that proved to play open so far and chasing goals in each opportunity, giving more emphasis in attack than defence.
As VPS coach stated, they will find empty spaces that will lead them to the goal today, as they already had a very good attacking function to the game against SJK. I hope that they will continue in the same pattern with striker Juho Makela being in great form (13 games, 9 goals). Main defender Teemu Honkaniemi (12 games) will miss the game due to injury, while long-term absentees are defender Mikko Viitikko (9 games), midfielder Charles Bantanga (5 games) and left winger Cliffton Miheso (10 games).
HIFK played another very open game in Turku and they paid for this, losing 3-1 away from home. According to the match reports they were not worth anything else than the defeat as defensive they were awful, while in front of the goal their players were unable to find solutions.
Till now HIFK have given good impressions with their open play and their homogeneity, but I guess that it is just a matter of time for things to turn negative. Main left back Tommi Vesala (7 gameS) and main striker Pekka Sihvola (12 games, 3 goals) are suffering from injuries and will stay out of today's game.
I think that this game is more vital for VPS than HIFK as they want to move away from the bottom of the league table. The fact is that VPS is a more experienced team and they have striker Makela in great form, scoring in every possible way. HIFK is not solid defensively and I think that VPS will finally win this game.
