Vitesse vs Heerenveen by Meese
Vitesse is looking way better in previous few weeks, as the team recorded three victories in last four matches, only losing to PSV Eindhoven away from home, result that seems to be quite expected from everyone. In the last match played, players of Vitesse managed to get a narrow victory away from home against Heracles with a 1:0 result couple of days ago.
It was actually quite an open game and both teams had plenty of chances to score, but the guests used their chances better and took the lead towards the end of the first halftime via Foor in 43rd minute. Heracles tried to react in the second halftime, but stood playing with a man less in 56th, they didn't have many good chances, while the visitors also got a red card towards the end, in 86t when defender Diks had to leave the match due second yellow card. Vitesse is now fifth, with just four points less than out of play-off placed Heerenveen and need a victory here.
Vitesse should be playing in their typical 4-3-3 formation using Foor, Wolfswinkel and Rashica in attack. Central defender Maikel van der Werff (16/0) is injured, same as offensive midfielder Adnane Tighadouini (22/3).
Heerenveen, on the other side, reacted well last weekend after their run of three consecutive defeats, as the team comes from a 3:0 victory at home against Sparta Rotterdam on Tuesday evening. Home side completely outplayed obviously weaker opponent, but only managed to score the goals once they upped the tempo in the second halftime.
Scoreline was opened in 56th minute when van Amersfoort brought the hosts into the lead, while the game was decided in the middle of the halftime with two more goals, via van Aken and Ghoochannejhad. With this victory Heerenveen managed to improve the atmosphere a little after three straight defeats, but still remain two points below the play-off placed Twente and knowing their abilities on the road, it's hard to expect them walking away with something here - the side had seven competitive defeats in a row on the road.
Visitors are set to play in 4-3-3 formation also, with Zeneli, Ghoochannejhad and Larsson in attack. Their manager Jurgen Streppel has a fully available squad for this one.
- Vitesse are undefeated in their last 5 home matches against SC Heerenveen.
Knowing poor performances of Heerenveen away from home, I can't see anything but a home victory here. Vitesse had a bit more of individual quality, are in better form during the whole season and should be able to prevail here. Odds are surely worth a shot since I rate their chances well above 50%.
