Villarreal vs Atletico Madrid by Jimeno
Villarreal comes from a goalless game away to Real Sociedad last weekend, as the team created several goalscoring opportunities, but once again lacked real tempo during the match, staying to another unimpressive performance. They have now completed three consecutive draws, but more worrying is that the team also has seven consecutive matches with no victory.
Although they still remain comfortable at sixth position, which leads to Europa League, the team seems to be more than out of form, with huge problems in the offensive part of the game and it's question mark whether they will hold the Europa League exit in case they don't show any kind of up trend in their form till the end of the season. Coach has said that all they need in order to bring positive results is some effectiveness in attack, while he continues to have big problems making up the team following absentee list. Central defenders Bruno (27/3), Mateo Musacchio (19/3) and Denis Cheryshev (no performance yet in the season) are all out due injuries, same as left back Adrian Martin (7/0). Forward Giovani dos Santos (24/1) is suspended, while forward Luciano Vietto (29/12) remains doubtful before this game.
In the last game before this one, Atletico wasn't that good in the first halftime, but re-organized themselves in the repetition and then cruised to another victory, in quite easy fashion winning 3:0 over Elche at home on Saturday afternoon. Griezmann scored two goals, in 55th and 76th, while Raul Garcia netted once in 63rd minute.
With this result, team of Diego Simeone has completed two consecutive victories in Primera, while they have ten consecutive matches without defeat in the domestic league, being firmly at the third position. However, the team got excluded from Champions League few days before game against Elche and it was good to see his team not being too downhearted with that outcome. Coach Simeone is expected to make a couple of changes in comparison to match against Elche, as right back Juanfran comes back after being rested in previous match. Midfielder Arda Turan was also rested and now is fully fit again, while striker Mario Mandzukic returns to squad in order to replace Fernando Torres.
Atletico is surely much more motivated for this game then their rivals, while the atmosphere inside the home team and their current form lead nowhere so the victory for the visiting team is more than logical choice here.
