Udinese vs Atalanta by Enzo
Udinese was quite lucky to walk away with a three pointer last Wednesday evening when they visited Sassuolo and took a narrow 1:0 victory. Only goal was scored back in 32nd minute via Barak, in one of rare chances for the visiting side during the ninety minutes game.
Players of Sassuolo had much more of the ball possession and chances created, however the goal never came for them. It was good to see however Udinese getting a three pointer after their defeats away to Fiorentina and at home against Juventus, as they now stand at thirteenth position with three points more than relegating worried Verona. They remain by far the most effective team in the second part of the table with sixteen goals scored out of ten matches, but the defense needs a lot of improvement having already conceded twenty-one.
Udinese should be playing in 4-3-3 formation with Paul, Lopez and Lasagna as forwards. Central defender Bram Nuytinck (9/1) is injured, while suspended remains left back Samir (9/1).
Atalanta, on the other side, comes from a very easy victory actually last Wednesday evening when the side won over Verona at home with a 3:0 result. There was no doubt from the first moment which side was better, but the players from Verona had some chances in the first halftime as well.
However, as soon as the second halftime has started, it was obvious that the visitors don't have that much energy left in order to match up with the opponents and it was all easier once they took the lead in 50th minute via Freuler, while Ilicic doubled up their lead nine minutes later. Finally, Kurtic sealed the victory in 75th minute, for the second consecutive victory for Atalanta which now stands at ninth position with just two points less than Europa League placed Sampdoria and surely want to improve further on the table.
Guests are set to play in 3-4-2-1 formation with Petagna as central striker, plus Gomez and Ilicic as offensive midfielders. Alejandro Gomez dropped in form, but should be in the starting eleven this time. Midfielder Joao Schmidt (no performance anyway) remains sidelined as the guests have no real absentee worries.
- Udinese are undefeated in their last 8 matches against Atalanta.
- There have been over 2.5 goals scored in Udinese's last 3 home games (Serie A).
- Udinese have scored at least 2 goals in their last 3 home matches (Serie A).
Udinese bounced back to winning ways after their defeat against Juventus and surely want to continue with a positive momentum aiming for a victory here. However, Atalanta remains much more stable side and now coming on a run of three consecutive victories in all competitions, they surely are at least slight favorite in this one. However, they aren't a top class side away from home and my first choice will be both teams scoring.
