Zverev vs Tsonga (By: Scully99)
I hope to be putting out a fair few more tennis tips now that the grass season has come around and I too have more time so hopefully we'll get some winners. My first bet of the grass season is Mischa Zverev to have a game headstart in the first set against Tsonga over in Stuttgart.
Regarded as one of the quicker grass courts on the tour, Stuttgart is the home event for Mischa Zverev and will be where he aims to end the treacherous form he finds himself in with only one win in a long, long time but what better time/place to do it than in his home country in a tournament he finds quite useful a lot of the time having reached the semis and quarters in two of his last three outings to this event and with wins against the likes of Thiem and more importantly for this bet first set wins against the like of Cilic and Federer. He has a really good serving record here winning around 93% of his serves at this tournament. Another important stat for this bet is that he is 9-0 in first sets at this tournament during his time here so there is even the potential he could nick this first set. On top of this, Zverev will know that this grass court period of the calendar is probably going to be his only hope to get his rankings back up as it is one of, if not, his strongest court so he will be very motivated.
Tsonga is the better player but like Zverev his best years are behind him and at 34 it is clear to see his decline. He has also always favoured grass and does have a good record on it but without a grass match in two years will it be easy for him to adapt right back in? Who knows. Tsonga has never played at this event so will also not be accustomed to the conditions as much as Zverev. Tsonga will also probably be tough for Zverev to break but with injuries starting to play a part in his career and Zverev able to hold serve 93% of the time at this tournament, how easy will Tsonga find it breaking against him? And as a tiebreak would win us this bet regardless of who wins it, this could be key.
This is a risky bet (as all bets are) as Zverev's form is diabolical but his motivation could be high and he does have the stats to back this bet up so I think it could definitely be on the cards, a tiebreak at least
