Brown vs Caruso (By: Scully99)
Final qualifying round for the French open sees the mercurial German Brown come up against the Italian Caruso.
There is a bit of bias behind this pick as Brown is one of my favourite players on the tour due to his incredible entertainment, you just have to type his name in on youtube to see some of the amazing things he has pulled off in his career. However, this bet isn't purely on bias, I have watched both his first two qualifiers and he has played really well in both dispatching Gomez and Istomin with relative ease not being broken once so far and winning 76% and 90% of his first serves respectively so far. He has just been playing really well and when he is a man in form, he can be very difficult to stop, even players like Nadal have seen such as Brown leads the H2H 2-0 between those two.
I can't say I have watched Caruso so far but he has had a seemingly easier route having struggled against 200+ ranked Gombos in the first round and facing hard court specialist Zhang in the second. He, unlike Brown, has been broken quite a few times so far this week and is having as much luck on his serve which could be pivotal alone in this bet.
Both players are in form on clay this year with Brown having a 9/2 record so far this year and winning the Sophia Antipolis challenger beating relatively big names like Haase and Krajinovic whereas Caruso has a 10/5 record so far but only really has Cuevas as any sort of major scalp.
The H2H between these two also points in Brown's favour as he leads it 3-0 including a win on clay a few years back so he clearly has the better of the two when they clash.
Brown, if he continues playing the way he has been so far this year on clay and in the last two games especially, should be far too good for Caruso who could struggle, as he has done in the past, with Brown's style of play and if he keeps serving as he has done so far this week, I can see an easy enough Brown win.
