Schwartzman vs Nishikori (By: Iniestaone)
Quarterfinal match from the ATP Rome between Schwartzman (#24) and Nishikori (#6)
Schwartzman is at his absolute best in Rome and I think he is worthy of being Friday's tennis pick.
His two matches in Rome on Thursday were against Ramos (7-6 6-1) and Berrettini (6-3 6-4). It was a magnificent performance he put up against Berrettini, he did have four double faults and was broken once but overall his FS was at 69% and he won 70% of those points. Most importantly, he played against the crowd which he has been a big factor for the Italians this year but he was a lot more composed than, say, Zverev was in his match against Berrettini. He was very solid from the baseline and to me at least it seems he has regained his confidence after a pretty poor season so far.
Nishikori to me is just not solid enough at the moment to defeat a good clay courter like Schwartzman, Kei's clay season so far has contained losses to Wawrinka, Medvedev and Herbert and I don't think he will win many rallies against Schwartzman if Thursday's matches are any indication. Nishikori defeated Struff in three sets, he was broken five times. Struff was broken six times in the two latter sets. Struff's serve did not have that big of an impact due to the slow courts after all the rain but I find it amazing that Kei had such a poor day on serve himself as Struff is not one of the better returners.
