Kyrgios vs Ruud (By: Iniestaone)
Second round match from ATP Rome between Kyrgios (#36) and Ruud (#76)
The odds movement for this one kind of match a Kyrgios performance, they've been moving almost 0.50 points in a matter of a few hours which is hilarious, Pinnacle opened at 1.52, then it went up to 1.90 and now its on 1.83. Bet365 is maybe the only bookie that got it right as they opened at 1.72 and it has stayed there, but even that is a bit high.
So, before I comment on Kyrgios' match against Medvedev it should be said that Medvedev had some medical issues, he needed an MTO and wasn't at his best. That being said, Kyrgios I believe can be trusted to overcome Ruud for this one. He was very silly against Medvedev with his comical tweeners, underarm serve and huge amount of drop shots but there was also real intent behind his first serve: 15 aces in 14 serve games, 70% fs and 79% points won on fs. I would never back Kyrgios to win a match in the first round of a tournament, but once he gets past that first round barrier I feel a lot more comfortable trusting him to keep winning.
And he has a good opponent for an easy advancement to the next round as Ruud is not as good as Kyrgios is. I watched Ruud's match against Evans and I can't say Ruud did a good match, he won it in three but he was bageled in the second set and Evans' poor service in the latter half of the set really let him down. Ruud doesn't have the same firepower as Kyrgios and as long as the points are held short, which we can all assume Kyrgios will attempt to do as always, then this should be quite a one sided affair.
I feel like the odds of Kyrgios being priced at 1.83 against Ruud would have made sense if this was the first round and Kyrgios hadn't overcome Medvedev and Ruud hadn't struggled past Evans the way he did. Now, it just makes no sense and I think Nick can get this done even at 70% of his capacity.
