Ruud vs Evans (By: Iniestaone)

First round match from ATP Rome between Ruud (#71) and Evans (#81)

I guess I understand the logic in having Evans being a 3.00 underdog for this one but I still think its too much based on these players general clay court performances and their recent form not taken into account. Ruud has been great following his final in Houston, he is 3/1 since then on European clay but he wasn't as challenged as Evans was in the qualifiers for Rome as he faced Musetti and Kecmanovic whom he defeated in two sets a piece.

Evans on the other hand put in gigantic performances against clay courters Haase and Lajovic and won both matches in straight sets, it might come as a surprise but I've always felt like Evans should be a better clay courter than he is due to his high mobility. He had a great run in the qualifiers, the serve was on point as he won 79% of the fs against Haase and 74% against Lajovic and when you take his opponents into consideration, he is having his best clay season ever. Aside from the Rome qual matches, he has defeated Giustino and taken sets from Davidovich Fokina and Granollers Pujol as an underdog. He hasn't done a bad match on this surface yet this year and since Ruud is not a top tier player, I think its reasonable to assume that Evans will take a set from him as well
