Lajovic vs Bedene (By: Iniestaone)

Semifinal match from the ATP Rome qualifiers between Lajovic (#24) and Bedene (#79)

I haven't backed Lajovic in a while after his final loss in Monte Carlo which was the rightful approach despite the temptation being there in both his matches against Mayer and Djere which he lost in two sets. They were all fairly close losses and its obvious that Lajovic has needed time to land after his most successful Masters ever. Now I think he will start winning some matches again and I do believe he will win this but it shouldn't be an easy match at all.

Bedene usually puts in solid performances in Rome and his one bad match on European clay this season came against Albot whom he lost to in two sets, I actually covered Albot to win that but since then Bedene has defeated Tomic in two and took a 6-7(10) 2-6 loss to Berrettini in Budapest where the Italian was truly a giant. Taking that first set to tiebreak was still a demonstration of power from Bedene and now he will play on a much slower court which benefits him a lot more.

I am expecting Lajovic to win this match but I also don't think he will come out swinging and playing his best tennis, three sets is probable considering that these two have similar playing styles focused around the baseline with long rallies trying to outlast the opponent. The line of over 21.5 games pays surprisingly well here.
