Thiago Monteiro vs Struff (By: Iniestaone)

First round match from ATP Munich between Monteiro (#112) and Struff (#51)

I was going to go for a Monteiro victory here but to be on the safe side, I'll go for Monteiro +3.5 games instead.

Monteiro has qualified to Munich and adapted well to the surface after defeating Ramos and Rublev in three sets each. He is 12/8 on clay so far this season and this is the only surface where he could keep up with Struff

Struff in turn played a long tournament in Barcelona that ended for his part just three days ago, he was excellent there as he defeated Dellien, Goffin and Tsitsipas before losing to Nadal 5-7 5-7 but it was so recent that I don't think he has made a good enough recovery to be at his best in the starting stages of Munich as well. Ramos had the same predicament, came to Munich to qualify after a long tournament in Barcelona and saw himself defeated by Monteiro who was knocked out of Barcelona by Delbonis immediately and had plenty of time to prepare for Munich.

I won't back Monteiro to win because this is home court advantage for Struff who always plays good tennis on German courts but the match picture i see in front of me for this match is both players having easy holds on their serves and Struff possibly winning in two tiebreaks, or 7-6 7-5.

This tournament must be interesting more then at Estoril. If we looking for player to take title everythink is on side Alexander Zverev. At 2016 he was seed 8 - ) QF, then one year latter he won Guido Pella in Final as a seed 3 and finally again at 2018 seed 1. Another German player is interesting is Kohlschrieber. He takes title as a seed 4 in 2016, then again two years after that 2018 lost in Final. So we can expect usurpation of German ( Aus, Swiss ) players for sure. Slovakian Martin Klizan is very unstabile. Best position is R2 at 2017, at 2018 from Que he reach R2. Am not concerned about Roberto Bautista and I'm expecting at least two round at minimum, but maybe even more. I expect also much from Italian Marco Cecchinatto, Fabio Fognini and Diego Schartzman.
Someone who speaks german language will take title at Germany.

Good thoughts David, personally I feel like Pella might end up winning it based on my gut feeling and what i've seen from him this year

I looked at Escobedo - Pavic and was really surprised to see Pavic priced that high, wrote a preview for it as well and have made a bet on him

Think conditions could really suit Struff! Would be surprised if he didn’t win here and go on to do well in the tournament as a whole!

After he lost 1 set, Hitzlik, probably give up, but Sebastian Korda was amazing at break points ( 100 % ). Some players are good like Pavic, but he is worst in tie breaks. I hate in tennis this stupid rules, 13 games, it is a lottery, you can be talent but you can lose easily.
Do you remember, Iniestane, when did you dicided to put a preview for Pavic. Did that was before mine or a little bit latter. Yesterday we had telepathy of puting comment/preview - 1 minute.
I have Petra Martic @2.00
