Andreozzi vs Sousa (By: Iniestaone)
Final qualification match for ATP Barcelona between Andreozzi (#84) and P. Sousa (#106)
I am backing Andreozzi to take a straight set victory in the Barcelona quals.
Andreozzi is coming off a three set victory against Robredo who always performs well on Spanish clay, the first set was a let down from Andreozzi who was broken twice but went on to win the remaining two sets despite getting broken once per set. He still managed to keep a very good first serve percentage for the match at 81% overall.
Sousa followed up his very poor form by defeating Alcaraz Garfia in the first round with the numbers 6-7 6-3 6-1. Why is this bad? Because Alcaraz Garfia is 15 years old, and still Sousa struggled to handle him. This was a continuation of Sousa's recent bad performances, he played the Tunis challenger before Barcelona where he defeated Vavassori in three sets as a 1.14 favorite and lost to Balazs in the following match as a slightly bigger favorite. He was also very bad in Murcia prior to Tunis.
Andreozzi had a very bad stint between mid January and mid March but he has caught form right in time for the big clay court tournaments in Europe and I think his biggest test was Robredo who has played ATP Barcelona since 1999, getting past him here took more than the odds suggested and now he is facing an out of shape Sousa who I think he will outplay in two sets. Sousa is 5/10 this season and his weak performance in the first qualification round makes me think he will go down quickly here.
