Goffin vs Andreozzi (By: Stanioooo)
1st round match in Monte Carlo between David Goffin and Guido Andreozzi.
Both players don't have any direct matches, but personally for me David is the one who has to dictate the rhythm of the match. Both of them love to play on clay and have better results on this surface, but the difference is that Andreozzi usually plays on a level lower as category of the tournaments.
During the last season on clay, Andreozzi played in a lot of challengers and his results were very positive, but still the level of his opponents was not the one when you face the best in the world. This season he already played on one clay tournament in Casablanca during the last week- he beat Ramos Vinolas in the start, but then lost against Simon with 6:2 6:2. Earlier in the season he also played in Buenos Aires and Cordoba, but lost in the 1st rounds by Bedene and Munar. He is just not a player who is capable of producing surprises against the best in the world, just because he is not on their level. Almost 28 years old and still without any big achievements- 0 ATP titles, max 2nd round in GS tournaments, highest ranking N70..
On the other side is David Goffin, no doubt one of the best clay-courters in the world. His style is just perfect for clay courts where the movement of the ball is slower in comparison with the hard courts. He hasn't participated in any clay court tournament during this season, but in the last one his results were positive enough- QF in Monte Carlo, QF in Rome, SF in Barcelona and 4th round in Paris. Players who beat him were from very good quality like Zverev, Nadal, the inspired Cecchinato in Paris and also Grigor in Monte Carlo, player who is like a black cat for the Belgian. During 2018 Goffin beat a lot of excellent clay court players like Bautista Agut(twice), Cecchinato in Rome, even Tsitsipas, Del Potro and much more.
The hard court season for Goffin since the beginning of 2019 was not connected with any big results and achievements, but I expect this one will change during the clay court tournaments. he has enough quality to beat even much tougher opponents than Andreozzi and the Argentinian should not be a hard task for Goffin in the start. I don't like to play straight-sets victories in the beginning of the tournaments, especially when it's the opening of the clay season for the favorite in this match. -3.5 games AH for David Goffin sounds good for me here.
