Del Bonis vs Andujar (By: Iniestaone)
First round match from ATP Marrakech between Delbonis (#74) and Andujar-Alba (#70)
Andujar-Alba enters Marrakech where he will be defending last years title after winning two challengers in a row, I can't remember when he was in this form. He won Marbella and followed it up with a win in Alicante two days ago and while there is of course a big risk of him being exhausted, I think the sheer importance of Marrakech will push him through the first couple of rounds. He has been poor on the hardcourt circuit this year but clay is of course where he thrives and he is 13/2 on clay courts so far this season.
Delbonis is coming off a loss to Djokovic in Miami where he played great for large portions of the match but fell apart in the end, that effort obviously looks better than it is because Djokovic is not playing well at the moment. Delbonis is 4/4 on clay this season and the transition he has to make from playing South American clay to American hardcourt and then African clay is a much bigger transition than the one Andujar-Alba has to make after his ten matches on Spanish clay in a row since Miami.
They've played five times in the past and Andujar-Alba has won all of them. I think Delbonis will struggle against Andujar-Alba's consistency, he has lost to similar players this season in Ramos, Sonego, Londero and even Munar in his native Argentina - solid baseliners who, much like Andujar-Alba will, patiently outplayed him from the baseline.
As mentioned before, there is a risk of Andujar-Alba being too tired for a top notch performance here but the excitement I see from him on social media tells me that he will give it his all in Marrakech as well to defend his points from last year and since he won't play Monte Carlo he can take that week and rest before he goes to ATP Barcelona
