Nicolas Jarry vs Edmund (By: Iniestaone)
Second round match from ATP Indian Wells between Jarry (#86) and Edmund (#23)
So its time for Edmund to make his first appearance in this year's Indian Wells. He pulled out of both Marseille and Rotterdam due to a knee injury after Australian Open and he did his comeback in the Indian Wells challenger which he won. He struggled in some matches and won other comfortably. Its hard to make something of his IW challenger run as its a much lower tier of tennis than the IW Masters, but one thing for certain is that he doesn't perform well in this tournament. He's been here three times before and the only win he took was against Elias, he has lost to Djokovic, Pella and Sela.
Jarry was on a really bad run after Davis Cup against Austria as his clay court season in South America fell flat with zero wins in Cordoba, Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro but he started showing improvement in Acapulco where he lost to De Minaur in the first round in two tiebreaks which he followed up with a huge first round win against Tiafoe. His serving was great at large portions of the match and it seems to me like the conditions really fit his serve well.
He is now facing an Edmund who is doing what could be categorized as his first serious match in months and it remains to be seen how he will respond to being back in top flight action. Jarry however has convinced me that he will put in another good performance and I am backing him to take a set here. He definitely has the serve for it.
