Taberner vs Cuevas (By: Iniestaone)

First round match from the Santiago challenger between Taberner (#309) and M. Cuevas (#306)

I've watched Taberner a lot this year and he has really been great on the indoor circuit, he is 5/8 but considering how indoor hardcourts aren't nearly his preferred surface and that he played very little tennis last year i'd say he's had a great start to the season.

M. Cuevas is doing his second match of the year in the singles after taking a lot of time to get into the new season, his one match was a loss to Lipovsek Puches in Punta del Este in three sets.

Its quite obivous that Taberner should and win this match, but I can't see him making an easy transition from European hardcourts to South American clay. For practically every player this is a change that takes some time to adjust to and despite Cuevas not playing a lot of tennis this year he's still been practicing on South American clay and he is one of very few players who play exclusively on one type of surface (this being clay in his case). I think these circumstances will cancel out the fact that Taberner is the better player who also happens to be in much better form and we see a match that goes over the low line of 21.5 games
