Djere vs Taro Daniel (By: Iniestaone)
1/8-finals from ATP Rio between Djere (#90) and Daniel (#73)
I have a feeling these odds are a bit skewed because of Djere's win against Thiem which really doesn't mean anything because Thiem needed medical timeouts in that match and was obviously nowhere near his full capacity. That was Djare's first win since January 5th.
Daniel defeated Seyboth Wild in three sets in his first round here which looks like a lesser accomplishment than it is, I've written about Wild before and what a great player he is and this time he played at home and had the full crowd with him so it wasn't an easy task for Daniel at all but he managed to get through. He had an extremely flat performance in Buenos Aires last week where he was demolished by Carballes Baena but the only conclusion I can draw from that is that he simply didn't care and if I didn't see him grind so hard agains Wild to reach the second round in Rio I might not back him to win vs Djere but I think I can safely assume that he is here to perform well so I think its worth backing him as he is the better player here.
The head to head reads 2-0 to Daniel, the most recent and only relevant match being on clay in Vienna last year where Daniel won 6-3 6-2. The odds are dropping on Daniel everywhere but they have remained stagnant on Bet365 who still offer 2.50 for a Daniel win.
