Marius Copil vs Gulbis (By: Iniestaone)

First round match from ATP Rotterdam between Copil (#72) and Gulbis (#84)

So its kind of funny to see Copil face Gulbis in the first round here because they both lost their qualification finals but due to withdrawals they still both got a place in the main draw. If one has any conclusion to draw from their quals its that Gulbis did much better. Copil needed three sets (and three tiebreaks) to defeat Scott Griekspoor (ranked 272nd) and then he lost to Fabbiano. Gulbis won against Stakhovsky 6-3 6-4 and then lost to Simon in two tiebreaks.

For me, its pretty obvious that Gulbis is the rightful favorite here. The odds are dropping but Pinnacle still gives 1.71 at the moment which is higher than what most bookies give and I expect Pinnacle to drop it to around 1.62.

Copil is a big server who thrives on these courts, but there are two things to put into consideration here: first is that the courts in Rotterdam used to be a lot faster and they used to benefit big servers a lot more than then they do today. Second, Gulbis usually handles big servers well. His head to head versus Copil reads 1-0, vs Isner its 4-3, vs Karlovic its 3-1. Gulbis himself of course has a good serve.

I expect a win for Gulbis here, he is simply playing better tennis at the moment and Copil has been in a slump ever since he defeated Wawrinka in Sofia.

Hello Inieastaone,
Thanks for Victor Galovic. I won on that match.
I think it is better to pick over 22,5 games. It will be dificult match because of each player has L U C K Y L O S E R card. So my point is if we already knows that the lucky loser will get another round why not to pick something else. I also expect Tie break in the match.
For your second match I believe in Dr Ivo Karlovic, and Marton Fucsovics
