Bedene vs Marterer (By: Iniestaone)

First round match from ATP Cordoba between Bedene (#65) and Marterer (#76)

There aren't a lot of good tennis bets to be made today but I think this is a really good one from Cordoba. Marterer is in great form so far in 2019, he is 6/3 and that is probably why he is the favorite tonight vs Bedene, who is 0/3 so far this season.

The difference is though that all the matches they've played have been on faster hardcourts which benefit Marterer's style of play a lot more than Bedene's. Playing on South American clay is completely different and I think Bedene has the edge here. This really is the only surface where he truly shines. Last season he had pretty much the same pattern, he was 1/3 in January but then went to play Buenos Aires and reached the finals and played in the Rio quarter finals a week later. I think we'll see something similar from him this season. His first half of 2018 was so good but a spinal injury made him unable to play for some time. He looks alright now though and his three losses haven't been anything spectacular: 0-2 vs Raonic and 1-2 vs Garcia Lopez, two players that really started this season in excellent manner and then he lost to Zverev in Australian Open 4-6 1-6 4-6.

Contrary to Marterer, his six wins look better on paper as the only top 100 players he defeated were Gojowczyk and Fabbiano. Had he faced Bedene on an equally fast court as the ones in Doha and Auckland i'd bet on Marterer but this is literally his first time doing the clay season in South America and he's facing a Bedene who has years of experience from here.
