Djokovic vs Nadal (By: Khum)
Novak Djokovic - Rafael Nadal
This might be the biggest matchup in tennis history based on the number of meetings and the overall balance.
Traditionally Nadal has dominated on clay courts and has been dominated on hard courts and grass court.
But make no mistake: the Nadal we're seing these days is a significantly better Nadal.
For most of their history we could see how Rafa's biggest weapon, his lefty heavily topspined crosscourt forehand, is not so much effective against Djokovic as it is against the majority of the players. Novak has both power in his doublehanded backhand over the shoulder's height and, most importantly, the ability to take the ball early, on the rise, denying the danger and pushing Nadal behind, and than exploitiong on the expense of Nadal's backhand.
In the last year's Wimbledon semifinal they played in two different days.
In the first day we could see Rafa's backhand fairing much better against Nole than in the past. Actually Nadal showed a improved backhand for al the last season.
After the game stopped at sets 2:1 for the Serb, Nadal came the other day and he seemed to have understood he cannot outplay Djokovic going crosscourt. Rafa became more proactive, changed the direction first with down the line shots and took the 4th set.
He still lost the game in the decider. Overall, what he needed in order to have the edge was a better serve.
In the offseason he must have worked on that and this year he came with a much better serve, especially the 1st serve, and with a more proactive game, as the age is calling upon him to stop rallying all day long.
This might be the edge Nadal needed against Djokovic.
The last time he won against the Serbinator in a hard court Grand Slam was in US Open 2013. Nadal has now a better serve, a better backhand, a better forehand and a much more agressive approach.
Both guys played tremendous this week and tomorrow we might see one of the best tennis games ever.
I know it's Nole's favourite Slam, I know he's had the edge against Nadal on hardcourts over the years, yet due to the adjustments Nadal has added to his game in the last 12 months I think he has a good shot to the trophy this time.
My bet is *Nadal to win in over 41.5 games @ 3.99 odds*, at the local bookmaker.
From the options allowed here I suggest the wagger on the *over 41 games*. Last time these two met they played 59 games of tennis. The last time they played in Australia they have set the record for the longest final, with 60 games and 5 hours and 53 minutes of play.
Let's go green!
