Djokovic vs Nishikori (By: Khum)
Novak Djokovic - Kei Nishikori
I hope there will be some suspense in the WTA games of the day, as for the ATP I only expect straightforward matches.
I've already tipped Raonic to win in straight sets and I see the same for Djokovic.
He's owning Nishikori with a 15-2 h2h record.
He never lost a set on hard courts to the Japanese player since that US Open lost semifinal in 2014.
Notably, these two have never played a tie-breaker in the last 16 sets of tennis they spent on court together.
In the last 10 sets played between the only once they reached 6:4.
In their last 10 sets played in Grand Slam tournaments they reached 6:4 outcome only twice.
Put together, they met 5 times in Grand Slams and they played more than 34 games only once, in that huge surprise when Nishikori won in US Open semifinals.
As I saw Djokovic this fortnight I believe he has a extra level of tennis which he didn't need to access. I doubt he will need it tomorrow, when he meets a guy who, as good as it is, does nothing better than Djokovic on the court.
It's both bad matchup for Nishikori and bad situation, as he overcame 18 long sets of tennis here in Melbourne, 9 of them gone in overtime, while the Serbian played only 14 sets and most of them were short, only two going in overtime (one 7:5, one 7:6).
All in all, I see Djokovic winning here in 28-29 games and I take extra precaution betting on the number of games they played last year in Wimbledon while going 4 sets.
Let's go green!
