Berdych vs Nadal (By: Stanioooo)
4th round in Australian Open and Tomas Berdych will meet Rafael Nadal.
These two players have enormous amount of matches- 23 and Nadal leads with 19:4. The last one was a long time ago- in 2015 and a lot of things changed for both of them. Berdych returned after an injury and his form is more than impressive when we know he was out of the courts for so long. Nadal also looks great, but we know that the injuries are part of his tennis career during the last years. So now both of them look like they are in excellent form and are ready to make a big battle on the court.
Berdych amazed in Doha reaching the final where he reached the final losing against Bautista Agut in three sets. Infact Bautista Agut is one of the players in the tour without a loss during the start of the season and the match between them was absolutely equal. Here he also showed his aggressive side and just blew away opponents like Edmund and Haase. Schwartzman was better challenge, but after the first two sets, Berdych took the control over the match and finished it in 4 sets. He won most of his serve games comfortable and everything is looking like he is ready to challenge Nadal.
On the other side is Rafa Nadal. He didn't start the season very well as he lost in three sets in Abu Dhabi against Kevin Anderson. Well, in Melbourne the situation is like every single time for Rafa- he totally raises his level during Grand Slams and here is just the same story. Australian Open is the GS tournament with less success for Rafa(he won it only once) and if you expect a surprise connected with Rafa's match, maybe this is the right place. He eliminated three Aussies(Duckworth, Ebden and De Minaur) in the first three rounds, which was not unexpected. Duckworth made a quality match against Rafa and lost with 7 games difference, Ebden's style is very likable for Rafa as he is able to counter his approaches to the net and that all led to impressive win with difference, while De Minaur didn't have a chance as he was obviously tired after taking the trophy in Sydney and having to play 5 sets against Laaksonen in the round before facing Nadal. So, to be honest, I think this is the first big challenge for Rafa and the Spaniard realizes it.
I want to mentionedone thing which is important for me. Nadal and Berdych have two matches in Melbourne and the first one was won by Rafa in 4 sets with 5 games difference, while the second was a massive destruction as Berdych eliminated Rafa in straight sets after 6:2 6:0 7:6. It happened four years ago and now both of the players look ready to battle for the win.
I expect very close match and maybe Rafa is much closer to the win, but after what I was from Berdych against Bautista Agut and Schwartzman, who are excellent in rallies, I don't think Berdych will perform worse than Duckworth for example. I will go with +6.5 games AH for Berdych and also the worst I expect from the Czech is to take a set against Rafa!
