Laaksonen vs Domingues
Final qualifying match for Australian Open between Laaksonen (#166) and Domingues (#225)
So, last night Laaksonen got past Kamke in three sets and he now has a huge chance to qualify for the Australian Open for the first time ever. He's a huge grinder on the tour and deserves this chance, and he's been given an opponent he should defeat thus him being a 1.44 favorite.
Domingues has faced Lestienne (2-0) and Ilkel (2-1) so far in this qualifying run. He is a player who prefers claycourts but he has plenty of experience on hardcourts to make this a challenge for Laaksonen, and I think he will. This is his second time qualifying for the AO,
last year he lost to Polansky in the first round by 6-7 4-6 as a 4.30-ish underdog. He has a similar playing style to Carreno Busta on hardcourts and I think he will make the most of his opportunity here because he too could've faced much harder opponents in the final qualifier against whom he would've been a bigger underdog. For a qualification final, I think the line of 21.5 games is far too low considering how even these players actually are. There'll be plenty of baseline duels here that can be won by either player.
