Ferrer vs Carreno-Busta (By: Stanioooo)
2nd round match in Auckland between the Spaniards David Ferrer and Pablo Carreno Busta.
There is a difference of about 100 places between them, but this is not important right now. David had an awful last two seasons, especially the last one and he went out of top 100 which doesn't correspond to his real potential. Everyone knows he is a real fighter in the end of his amazing career, but is still capable of making surprises. We saw that in Hopman cup where he was so close to beat Alex Zverev, but lost with 4:6 6:4 6:7 in final tiebreak. Then he beat Matthew Ebden and Lucas Pouille, which looks more than impressive as results. He also played a few double matches together with Muguruza. Here in Auckland he started with impressive 6:2 6:1 win against Haase, who sometimes can be a very hard nut to break, but it was a different story. Except in his 1st service game, Haase had to save break points till the end of the match on his serve. He was broken so many times, which showed not only how bad day Haase had, but also what's the current form of Ferrer. Just four words- he is on fire!
Carreno Busta doesn't have any official matches in 2019, so there is no place to compare them as practice on the court during this season. Trainings can not be compared with official matches at all, so that's a big advantage of David. Pablo is much younger, but when he is out of form he can be beaten with easiness. Too inconsistent player for me! Also they have similar styles trying to play with a lot of aggression and are not the best servers relying a lot on rallies.
David leads 2:1 in direct matches winning twice on faster courts in Wimbledon 2014 and Cincinnati 2017. On clay in Estoril 2017 Carreno Busta was the winner. So, another plus for David, it looks like he feels comfortable against Pablo playing on faster courts.
I am going with David Ferrer in this match, can't go against a player in such current form.
