Kudla vs Garcia-Lopez (By: Iniestaone)
First round match from Sydney between Kudla (#62) and Garcia-Lopez (#101)
All credit to Garcia-Lopez for a great start of the season, he is 5-1 after three wins in Doha and two qualifying wins in Sydney. He was very unlucky with the weather though, due to the rain in Sydney he had to play the qualifiers on the same day and they weren't easy matches, he defeated Bedene in three sets and then needed an hour and a half to win vs a Bolt who still has ankle injury problems and isn't nearly at 100% fitness.
Kudla did what he could in Brisbane, defeated Fritz 2-1 before succumbing to eventual tournament winner Nishikori. He really fought well, especially in that first set that he lost 5-7 after holding serve for 5 games and not even giving Nishikori a breakpoint. When he lost that first set he naturally lost motivation and did a worse second set after getting broken in the first game.
I think Kudla looked really good in Brisbane and he should be well rested and ready for Sydney, much more so than Garcia-Lopez who is 10 years older and doesn't have the same fitness level.
