Nishikori vs Medvedev D. (By: Stanioooo)
Final match in Brisbane between Daniil Medvedev and Kei Nishikori.
Both of them are playing fantastic during the tournament, they beat couple of very talanted and experienced players on their ways to the final which includes Murray, Tsonga, Dimitrov and Raonic. If I have to be honest I am not amongst the fans of Medvedev's style, the way he serves and makes some of his shots looks strange, but it gives positive results, that's the most important thing. He is maybe the best Russian player right now, although Khachanov and Rublev also develop very good.
It's 1:1 when we talk about direct matches but the recent one was in Tokyo in the big final, when Medvedev just destroyed Nishikori in every single aspect infront of his opponent's crowd. The result was 6:2 6:4 and maybe Nishikori was too stiff, because the expectations to lift the thophy in Japan were too high. Now this factor will not affect any of them, they play in Australia and Nishikori is in amazing form. He reaches everything on the court and there will be a lot of rallies. There is only one thing which is in Medvedev's advantage and that's his better serve. Nishikori can not make so many aces but has a good variety on his serve and that also works till now. He faced 3 break points in his three matches and was broken just once in the QF by Grigor. So, this match is going to be absolutely different from the one-man show which happened in the autumn in Tokyo.
In their two direct matches there were 20 games on clay in Monte Carlo and 18 games in Tokyo in this one-sided match. I expect both of them to show their best tomorrow and why not to see a three-set thriller. No one will want to give up easily. Last season Medvedev played in three finals in Sydney, Winston Salem and Tokyo and won all of them, so he doesn't have to be underestimated at all. It's hard to imagine how he will defend his trophy in Sydney next week after he has to play a final in Brisbane, maybe he will reject playing next week because of tiredness. On the other side is Nishikori and he already lost a final in Brisbane during 2017 against Grigor in long three-sets match, so he knows what's the feeling to reach the final step before the trophy.
I expect three sets and hope Nishikori somehow to take the win, but much clever options for me are +2.5 games AH Medvedev or over 21.5/22.5 games. I am going with the safest ones for me and that's over 21.5 games. The odds are 1.61 in Pinnacle, while you can also play them live tomorrow in bet365 when the match starts- the odds are expected to be the same.
