Ebden vs Gojowczyk
3rd round match in Shanghai between Matthew Ebden and Peter Gojowczyk.
OK, today was a good betting tennis day- Chung-Marko-over 20.5/21.5 games✓, Strycova✓, Van Uytvanck✓, also changed the pick of Viktorya Tomova- Kucova to win the match instead of the over 21.5 games, because of the big rain delay in Hong Kong(almost 4 hours). Two were the misses- Peng loss against Yastremska and the fatigued Basilashvili against Alex Zverev. So today I will post three picks about tennis and hope all of them to be right.
My first pick is about Matthew Ebden to prevail over Peter Gojowczyk. Both started with two wins, but Enden's ones were more impressive for me. Matthew made a promising tournament in Chengdu with the QFs he reached there. Here he made two wins against players like Tiafoe and Thiem. The last one against Thiem was in very quality match where noone wanted to give up, but Ebden prevailed in a tie-break set.
Peter Gojowczyk's way before this match looks a little bit easier with wins against Sock, who is in tremendiously bad form when we talk about singles and Marton Fucsovics. Before Shanghai Masters, Peter's form was very poor and I really can't understand why Peter was a slight favourite in the beginning when the odds were released. Now the odds dropped for E6bden and theyare absolutely equal in bet365- 1.90 to both of the players.
It's interesting they won their 2nd round matches with absolutely the same result- 6:4 6:7 7:6, so still the odds are strangely for me. If I had to give odds about this match they would be 1.50 for Matthew and 2.50 for Peter. Why? First of all, Matthew is serve-and-volley player and these fast courts suit him perfectly well for his style. Some players have said this season the surface is even faster than in the previous seasons, so that's perfect news for the Australian. I don't think Gojowczyk will like to play against a player with that style and maybe with bigger confidence, because Ebden beat top 10 player like Thiem in the previous round. They also have one match during 2017 in Newport and the Aussie won in straight sets 6:3 6:3.
Maybe it will be a long match, harder than expected for Ebden, but I believe he is more accomplished player and his style will prevail over Gojowczyk's ones with his fast 1st serve and baseline play.
