Sharapova vs Karatacheva (By: Stanioooo)
This is one of the last matches in the daily schedule from the 1st round in WTA Montreal. It's between Maria Sharapova and Sesil Karatantcheva and it will be played on the centre court.
Well, these two players have a controversy for a really long time ago. It's started when Sesil told Maria she will kick her ass on the court, because Sharapova failed to turn up for a scheduled exhibition match between them a week before Indian Wells 2004. OK, the fortune was so kind to draw them and they played equal match, but Sharapova won it in three sets. After that Sharapova just destoroyed Sesil everywhere she has the opportunity to face her. They were progressing stars in 2004/2005 and Maria beat her twice in Australian open and Wimbledon 2005 giving Sesil just 5 games in both matches. In 2006 Sesil was suspended for 2 years after giving positive tests for nandrolone and of, course, after Maria was also suspended for more than an year, Sesil couldn't shut up her mouth and told Sharapova had to be suspended for much longer, because her guilt a lot of years ago was smaller but led to longer suspension than Sharapova. I don't think Maria liked her words a lot, almost the same like the case with Bouchard. They also have one more match in Birmingham 2010, when Sharapova won it 6:2 6:4.
I didn't choose this match only because of the brilliant H2H for Sharapova, which is 4:0. Sharapova was eliminated in the start of Wimbledon by Diatchenko in three sets, but before that she was excellent on clay courts. We will see what will happen on different surface like hard courts, but what I know is that Sharapova loves to play on faster courts and if her serve works good today, she will win with easiness. Karatantcheva will be struggling on serve for sure when you know Sharapova is against her on return. On the other side Karatantcheva is in awful form and she made two wins in a row in the qualifications in Montreal against Demi Schuurs Lizette Cabrera. Infact these were her only wins in WTA main tournaments for 2018. Before that she lost all of her first qualification matches in Washington, Bucharest, Wimbledon, French Open, Birmingham, Charleston, Doha, St Petersburg and Australian Open. With such a form in 2018, I don't think Sesil will have big chances today, even for a set.
2:0 is my prediction here and -5.5 AH for Sharapova. I don't think Sesil will win more than 5 or 6 games today, mostly if Maria's serve works good.
