Harrison vs Mahut
1st round match between Ryan Harrison and Nicolas Mahut in Newport, USA.
That's the top match from the 1st round between two players with great skills, but never turned them into something bigger as achievements. I am talking only about the single performances. Ryan is in really bad shape once again, he is struggling on the court obviously, having bad results on clay and now on grass. He was eliminated in the start of the tournaments in Queens and Nottingham by Edmund and Jay Clarke, while in Wimbledon he was stopped by Mannarino in the 2nd round. His only win was against clay courter like Roberto Carballes Baena.
Nicolas Mahut is also in not such a great shape. He didn't play much on clay, but it's not so important. here we talk only about grass and Mahut proved during the years he can play on it and also loves it. He has the serve and the moving on the court, but they will work for him as soon as he finds his rhythm during the match. His form is not so good, but the positive thing is that he played so many matches in Wimbledon. He was eliminated in the qualifications in singles, but then he participated also in doubles and mixed doubles. We will see whta will happen in Newport against Harrison in a match between two players who are really struggling nowadays as form.
In Queens Mahut made one really good match against player in from on grass like John Millman, although he lost in tiebreak in the third set.
I have to say what at first I chose to play Harrison, but one thing changed my mind in this close match and it's one tweet by Harrison. Two days ago he bought a bouquet of lillies and almost killed one of his dogs, which he loves so much. He feels extremely bad, because he didn't know they are toxic and one of them ate a part of the flower. Now the dog will need a long treatment and it costs a lot of money. I am not sure how concentrated Harrison will be on the court, because people who have dog/s or any kind of animals know that they are part of your family, you feel them like another person in your family and such a think to happen can distract you a lot. For example, just to imagine Serena's baby gets illness before one of her matches. Do you think she will be focused so much on her performance? I don't think so, she will be distracted by the thoughts of her baby. It's almost the same with Harrison, who feels the guilty one in this situation and I am not sure if he will be focused enough.
H2H they have two matches and each of them has 1 win. Harrison plays infront of home crowd, but sometimes this has really bad influence, because you feel much more the pressure to win the match. I will play Mahut here, maybe on clay or on hard courts I would avoid this match, but on grass and after this unlucky situation with Harrison, I am going with the French player.
