Almagro vs Galdon (By: Stanioooo)
ATP qual. match between Nicolas Almagro and Viktor Galovic in Bastad.
We all know a lot about Nico Almagro and his achievements in the past. but the reality for the Spaniard is that his career is almost over. He is almost 33 years old, N661 in the ranking and in the middle of 2017 against Juan Martin Del Potro he got left knee injury and had surgery a few days after that. He came back on the courts for a few tournaments in Santo Domingo and Seville Challengers+ US Open, but the results were very bad with 1 win and 3 losses. Then he made one impressive win over Benneteau in Metz, but that was all for him. He lost to Goffin in Metz and Laslo Djere in Rome Challenger. Then he got second left knee injury and after his comeback on the courts he has only two matches and it's not hard to predict there were two losses in his account- in Milan Challenger by Haider- Maurer and in Perugia by Ulises Blanch.
His opponent is N180 in the ranking, 27 years old player from Croatia. Viktor Galovic is very tall player with massive 1st serve, but he just doesn't have the quality to be part of top 100. He is inconsistent in his performance, playing mostly on challengers. He had good results in the recent weeks and that gave me the feeling he will win this match quite easy. He reached the SFs in Recanati Challenger a few days ago, although it was on hard courts, not on clay. Last seasons he performed much better on clay courts than this season, also playing much more matches.
I don't expect something big by Viktor Galovic in this tournament in Bastad, there are so many players, who are in better form and from higher class, but he has to qualify for the main draw for sure. He's leading 1:0 H2H against Almagro with a win in straight sets in Seville Challenger 2017. Also he is in better form with so many matches played in 2018 and has better serve. So, against a player totally out of form I can't miss to play this one for the Croatian.
