Bennetau vs Mannarino (By: Stanioooo)
2nd round in ATP Queen's and there is a match between two French players- Julien BenetEau and Adrian Mannarino.
Both of them can play good on grass, so none of them will have big advantage over the other one. Last year Mannarino had very good grass season with final in Antalya and 4th round in Wimbledon, but this one looks totally different- he is still not in form for the grass and it was obvious- first in Hertogenbosch, where he lost to Jeremy Chardy in the start, while in Queen's he was on the verge of elimination also in the beginning, but somehow succeeded to make a late comeback against Daniel Evans being one set all and 2:5 down in the 3rd.
Julien Benneteau plays his first grass tournament and he started from the qualifications. He earned 3 wins till now over Bolelli, McDonald and Tomas Berdych. The win over Tomas was really unexpected for me, I thought the Czech will continue without much problems to the 2nd round, but Benneteau played superb against very talented player like Berdych, although not in his best form. He served brilliantly against Tomas, making bunch of aces and used his chances to break his opponent. Now he will face an opponent and a friend in the next round, which was not so uncomfortable during the years H2H. Their stat is totally in Benneteau side- 3 matches/3 wins in straight sets for Julien, but they are played in 2011 and 2013, so we don't have to take them too seriously. They may just give a little bit more confidence to Julien before the start of the match and to these one who will play Julien to win the match.
I will pick Julien here, not because of the stats against Mannarino, but because of the performance against Berdych, with such good stats in this match, while Mannarino was close to lose his second match on grass in a row, only the fact Evans was out of the court for an year and he needs more time to find his best form- maybe that was the reason he was not so calmed and confident when he was serving for the match. Also- 2nd set finished 6:0 for Evans! Absolutely shameful result in this set against a player who is far away from his previous form! It will not be an easy match, don't lie it will finish so fast in straight sets with difference for Julien, but easy or hard, I believe he will arange a meeting with Novak in the next round.
