Chardy vs Medvedev D. (By: Stanioooo)
2nd round match between Jeremy Chardy and Daniil Medvedev in ATP Queen's.
This is the first match between them and I was not only surprised, I was a little bit shocked bookies give a slight advantage here to Medvedev. OK, he made some great results on grass last season with two QFs in Queen's and Hertogenbosch and SF in Nottingham, but then in Wimbledon- early loss by Ruben Bemelmans. He was totally out of form during the clay season and his start on grass was not the best one- he was eliminated one step earlier in comparison with the last season (to be clear - in the 2nd round with 6:4 6:1 by Fernando Verdasco). Now he beat Jack Sock in the start, but the American is the player, part of top 50, who is absolutely out of form and maybe has the worst results with less than 30% wins in his matches during 2018. In the 2nd round he has to face the French who is in really hot form.
Jeremy didn't have the success which Medvedev had during 2017 on grass, but what about his results in 2018! He won the Surbiton challenger beating Alex De Minaur in the final, then he lost the final in Hertogenbosch against an opponent, who knows extremelly well and his name is Richard Gasquet. They are very good friends, almost at the same age, but Gasquet is just the better one and proved it during the years H2H.. Jeremy had chances in the second set serving for it, but was broken in the end and lost it in tiebreak. Here in Queen's he won his first match against Tim Smyczek without giving him any break chances and looking good on the court... I am still confused about the odds in this match..Maybe it's a little trap like all of the surprises which happened in the start of the WC in Russia, but I still don't think Medvedev will win. The only advantage he has is that he is 9 years younger and the fact Chardy is a little bit over 30 with such a long row of matches in about 15 days and bookies expect his tank to be almost over.. I don't think so! He didn't show any problems serving today against Smyczek and put his opponent under a lot of pressure in his service games..
I am going with the French! He is on fire and still looking good on the court, not too tired for sure! Also I don't trust in stats from someone's results in previous year/s, because an year or even more is a long period of time and there can happen some changes. Best example is Jelena Ostapenko- from champion in RG 2017, she was eliminated in the start during this season. Medvedev good results during 2017 don't mean he will repeat them during 2018.
