De Minaur vs Evans (By: Stanioooo)
Final match in Nottingham challenger between the Australian Alex De Minaur and the British Daniel Evans.
These two players reached the final round absolutely deserving it. Dani Evans is finally back after one year suspension after failed drug test. He played a few challengers but it's more than obvious he needs more time to find his previous form before the suspension. We don't have to forget he made some amazing wins against Cilic and Thiem before the suspension in the first part of 2017, so he can be really dangerous opponent, but when he finds his real rhythm.. In the SFs Granollers showed some weaknesses in Evans performance. He moved him very well on the court, broke him in the start of the 1st set and that break was absolutely enough. What was the turning point of the match was the third game in the 2nd set when Evans saved two break points- a break there would knock out him and his ambitions for the final for sure, but somehow saved them and then his performance leveled up until he won the 2nd set and the match. He was good enough to beat Granollers who's not the typical grass-court player and is out of form, but what about the young Australian?
Alex De Minaur looks brilliant on grass. His movement, pace, aggression when it's needed.. He's born to play on that surface. His perfromance on hard courts in Australia in the start of the season gave us the hint we can expect a lot by him especially on fast surfaces in the future. Now he needs time to progress in the ranking and these challengers are the perfect chance for more ATP points. Last week he reached the final in Surbiton losing to extremely well playing Jeremy Chardy in three sets. I think now he has the perfect chance to grab the title. He has a little problem with the finals this year- first he reached the final in Sydney, but lost it against Dani Medvedev, then in Alicante challenger he lost to Pablo Andujar. Last week he lost to Chardy in the big final. All of them were on different surfaces but on this one he looks the best for me and against Dani Evans, although he's the home player, he has best chances to grab the title. He looked amazing against Ivashka in the SFs and during the whole tournament at all.
I pick De Minaur to grab the title! He looks much more stable right now and his form is progressing. I believe this time in Nottingham is going to be his lucky one :))
