Chardy vs Ebden (By: Stanioooo)
SF match in Hertogenbosch between Jeremy Chardy and Matthew Ebden.
These two players are close as age- over 30 years old, close in the ranking, close as matches on grass this season, because both of them played in Surbiton challenger last week where Chardy won the title beating Alex De Minaur in the final, while Ebden was eliminated by De Minaur 6:4 6:4 in the SF. So, I can't say one of the players will have an advantage, because he's younger or fresher with less matches played..
Here I will use only two facts- H2H is the first one and it says 3:0 to Chardy with three straight set wins with big difference in the sets. 6:4 6:2 6:2 at US Open 2012, Acapulco 2014- 7:5 6:0 and Delray beach 2016- 6:2 6:1. Total domination by the French player in direct matches. What can we expect here and why the odds are so high for Chardy's win, almost equal with a slight advantage for the French player when we look he's dominant in direct matches? The reason is just one- Gilles Muller. Ebden was the one who eliminated him in straight sets and the Luxembourg player was the reigning champion for 2017. What's the way he succeeded to beat Muller, when we know that the left-handed Luxembourg player is really good on grass-courts? Well, Muller serve was not good enough, he is also out of form in comparison with last season and Muller couldn't find the right way to beat this serve and volley style Ebden has got. Muller was broken 3 times while Ebden only one with a lot of break chances for both of them. So, what's my second reason to play it for Chardy. It's because Chardy in comparison with Muller can beat this serve and volley style- he proved it during the years not only against Ebden, but against the one who use it during all of his matches, no matter what's the surface and that player is called Mischa Zverev. 2:0 for Chardy against Zverev after two comfortable wins. It's obvious Jeremy knows how to make perfect lobs and passing shots combined with good serves and easy points in his service games.
Alex De Minaur showed us in Surbiton how to beat Ebden and his style, while Chardy beat the young Ausiie player in the final. I think Chardy will find the way to continue his win row against Matthew Ebden and will reach the final. It's a little bit strange cause both SFs are between French and Australian players where the French players have big advantage H2H and are the favorites to set a French final in Hertogenbosch.
