Mihaela Buzarnescu vs Rebecca Peterson
Mihaela Buzarnescu - Rebecca Peterson
Mihaela Buzarnescu is one of the most interesting recent stories in tennis.
Playing for the whole carreer at ITF level due to injuries or not playing at all and attending a doctorship, last year she has made a last push with tennis and her body responded better. And she started a unbelievable run, starting 2017 below top 500 and being now, at 30 years of age, number 33 WTA.
Any decent tennis follower would expect a decline after such a steep ascend in the rankings, yet she kept on being consistent throughout 2018 and she has reached 2 WTA finals and one semifinal during the stretch. She's been most proficient on claycourts, where she's 12-6 this year and she has played a final in Prague (where Kvitova needed a decisive set against her) and a semi in Strasbourg, last week (lost to Cibulkova, again in the decisive set).
For her first ever Roland Garros main draw match and the first Grand Slam match against somebody else than Wozniacki, she took care of business in straight sets with a 6:3, 6:3 win over Vania King.
Her today opponent, Rebecca Peterson, is having her best year so far, ascending in WTA top 100 and recording as well her first Grand Slam MD win, 6;4, 6:3 over Su-Wei Hsieh. Interesting enough, Hsieh's last match before this one was a 6:3, 6:0 loss in to Buzarnescu, in Strasbourg.
With both Peterson and Buzarnescu in the best moments of their career I'm going with the one playing on a higher level and being more competent on the red surface.
Let's go green!
