Del Bonis vs Ramos
1st round in Rome and a match between Albert Ramos and Federico Delbonis.
The Argentinian is behind his opponent in the world ranking (70 against 41), but nowadays that doesn't have big importance, it's better to watch their current form. If we do that, Delbonis is favorite in this match. His results are improving with the tournaments, although it's nothing special to reach 2nd or 3rd round, but for players with that ranking you can't expect much more. Delbonis also leads H2H 4:2 against Ramos. He won the last three matches and the last one was in Estoril this year where Delbonis beat the Spaniard in two sets. It's interesting to mention that all of their matches are on clay and the last three were won by the Argentinian but really convincing- all of them in straight sets. Last Ramos victory over Delbonis was in 2011. I want to mention that I was really surprised how good Delbonis played against Thiem in Madrid last week. He lost in three sets- 4:6 6:3 7:5 for the Austrian, but was really good in rallies and his serve helped him a lot. It's more than sure we will see a lot of rallies tomorrow especially in Ramos service games.
Albert Ramos results are going from bad to worse this season. I really don't know what's happening with him. He proved himself during the years as an excellent clay-courter, but this season he has so many early exits including on clay. Vatutin in Casablanca, Delbonis in Estoril, Tsitsipas in Barca, Kohlschreiber in Monte Carlo and Cuevas in Madrid... in all of them he lost in 1st or 2nd round+ he lost almost all of the matches against these opponents in straight sets. If we add that he also lost early in Rio, Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires on clay against Jarry(twice)+Bedene, the situation for him looks.. I don't want to use such words, but it's really embarrassing for him. His opponents were not the easiest ones, but if he can't beat them, how can he conquer players like Thiem, Zverev, Nadal, etc on clay? He has only one good tournament in Quito, where he lost the final by Baena. I really wonder how he is still 41 in the ranking this week. I didn't see his results and where he has to defend points but maybe the tours are closer and closer. I won't be surprised if we see him close to the bottom of top 100 in the end of the season if he continues with this weak results.
The home factor won't be on any side, because none of them is Italian, so I'm going with Delbonis for sure with max stake. Maybe Ramos will improve a little bit his results on grass, but don't expect anything from him in Rome and in Paris.
