Klizan vs Tristan Lamasine (By: Iniestaone)

So yesterday I got to watch both Lamasine's and Klizan's matches and I think Lamasine had a much more convincing first round.

Klizan faced off against Guez in a three set match where the third set could've gone either way. Klizan eventually won it 6-4 but he was broken twice and Guez three times. It was a very tight final game where Klizan needed 3 match points after Guez threw away two chances to win the game.

A few hours before, Lamasine had defeated Barrere in what was also a three set match where Lamasine showed great mental strenght after being broken to 2-4. He responded with an immediate break back and won the set 7-5. Now, what's very important is that Barrere was a big favorite - Betsson had him as low as 1.40 - because of the way he had kicked off 2018 with 13 wins and zero losses, albeit 10 of the games were Futures but he still took decent scalps against the likes of Olivetti and Hoang.

Klizan is not a regular visitor of these French indoor winter challengers, he is actually making his Quimper debut this year while Lamasine - who is 4 years younger - is playing here for the fourth time and he has only been better and better. In 2013 he lost in the qualifications, in 2016 he lost in the first round after a close match vs Khachanov and last year he got to the quarter finals where he lost to Rublev expectedly (4-6 4-6). Is it time for Lamasine to take another step forward and at least reach the semis? Quite possibly as several seeded players are out already and should he defeat Klizan he will be facing the winner between Vatutin and Basic -- hardly mission impossible.

Lamasine plays with great will on these French indoor tournaments, he moves around very well and looks hungry when playing in front of his own crowd on what I consider to be his best surface. Klizan is making his second match of the year after stumbling past Guez. I only see one winner here.

The odds will most likely start moving during the day and I'd say they will drop to around 2.00 on the Frenchman.

Good luck!

are you all in love with lamasine ? for reaL? checked his matches and he struggles quite a bit to come through each and one of them. meanwhile klizan who wasnt in quimper still won indoor titles in his career. scratch my head if klizan does not win it.

@innn Thanks for the imput, I think if you actually look back and see when Klizan won his last title you'll see that it was in 2016 when he was a top 30 player, he has been in a steady decline since then as he is ranked 146th now. I really enjoyed watching Klizan a few years ago but this is not the same player as he was then

Also worth pointing out Klizan in a recent interview said he doesnt miss tennis and only does it for the money similar to a certain Tomic!
