Kerber vs Keys
WTA Australian Open, quarter finals
Angelique Kerber all the way here if you ask me. Not just she should win this match but IMO she can repeat 2016 success when won the title in Melbourne.
I said plenty positive stuff about German player after she was impressive in first three matches here. But not just here, in fact she was impressive since start of 2018 and counting Hopman Cup and also counting title in Sydney, this former world no. 1 is now already 13-0 on the season. And all that with big note, she had many serious opponent in those 13 matches.
Now, she failed to deliver the last time, Hsieh took set from her. But no matter, I didn't change my opinion about Kerber's outstanding season so far due to one lost set here, especially after seeing how Hsieh was good in some moments of that match.
Before that mentioned match vs Hsieh, exactly Kerber statistically was the best player on the tournament, just in front of Keys who was slightly below. Now (I would need double check about that) after Kerber losing one set and after Keys' straight sets victory over Garcia, probably Keys statistically is leader of the tournament but I am not so sure this will be helpful for her against Kerber.
We can also question Keys' schedule. IMO Kerber had tougher opponents, after all Kerber eliminated Sharapova.
Important fact here could be H2H (6-1) in favor of Kerber. I think this fact could affect mentally on Keys. She did not proved she can deal with situation when is under big pressure. Just look on 4th Grand Slam in last season. Namely she reached the finals on US Open and it was expected she will rule against Stephens but in fact, Keys took just three games overall in that finals. Now facing the opponent against whom she had practically no success except one win on grass, and knowing that opponent is back into best shape, all that IMO will be too much for Madison Keys.
I have strong opinion about Angelique Kerber taking the job done in this match.
